Cranium Composers

Cranium Composers is our music and movement program.  Our program includes multi-cultural music, classical composers, education based songs, children using instruments in rhythm patterns, introduction to musical terms and instrument families, and creative movement exercises.

We worked with a team of teachers to develop our curriculum.  We combined our training in early childhood education, Master Degree in music education, and our expertise in the Kodaly and Orff methods of teaching to find the correct blend of instruction for our program.

The early childhood years are important when it comes to musical development.  Studies show that children who play or sing  music regularly perform better in reading and math when they begin elementary school.

Singing and dancing to music increases both fine and gross motor skills and helps to develop hand eye coordination.  Children involved in music programs often tend to have high self esteem, interact well with others, and are comfortable with self expression.  Other benefits of positive age approriate music programs include increased vocabulary, improved listening skills, pattern recognition, and even the ability to self-regulate behavior.

The MENC (Music Eduators Nathional Conference) recommnds that music should be introduced to preschoolers in both the recorded and live formats in a wide range of styles.  Classes should also include music discussion, responding to music with movement, and the freedom to play age appropriate instruments.  Our program meets and exceeds MENC suggestions.

We offer a unique program.  In our Cranium Composer classes children will sing, play their own instruments, follow along to specific movements and exercises, and be encouraged to interpret the music with creative movements.  We teach beginning musical concepts such as tempo, pitch, and instrument families.  Classes also include percussion exercises where children will use their own instruments to practice rhythm patterns.

Every class is different.  Each week we will follow a structured lesson plan focusing on educational fundamentals such as colors, cultural development, seasons, geography, personal space, anatomy, and emotions.
